Part 1

Part 1

A Chapter by Emme

"Spring break, here I come!" my best friend, Jon, shouts as he runs out of school and promptly trips on his shoelace.
"Smooth, Jon." I say, rolling my eyes.
"Whatever!"
"So how was detention?"
"Like being in hell with a space heater. I swear the school needs to get the frickin' air conditioning fixed!"
"Yeah, P.E.'s been awful lately."
"What I really wanna know is why they give detention right before break, and what's so bad about tossing a water balloon in the hallway? It didn't even break!"
"I don't know. Just don't do it again."
"No duh, Maria."
"So what do you wanna do?" I asked.
"Find somewhere with decent air conditioning," Jon replied.
"Ultrazone it is."
At the end of the first round of lazertag, I stood there with my hands on my hips and a smug expression on my face. "What's that you said earlier about girls being weak?"
"Yeah, yeah, you beat me, good game, blah, blah, blah."
"Another round?"
"Sure. Maybe I'll beat you this time."
"Fat chance."
Five rounds later, Jon said. "That's enough. I've lost like six times, and it's getting old."
"Believe me," I said. "Winning gets old too."
"Showoff."
