~ A pOet Walked In ~

~ A pOet Walked In ~

A Poem by J. Hampton
"

A piece inspired by all the incredible pOets I have known...a conglomeration of fascinating things about each and his spirit and craft....when i dropped this they "ALL" thought I wrote it "them"

"

A pOet walked in……through the blues and the smoke

smiled jazz with his face

and the twist of a joke.

A voice …all his own….not the regular kind.

sipped wine from my soul

poured the ressst… down my spine.

Bass kicked in as He started to speak

Angels danced off his grin

kinda makin’ me……..weak

Kicked the light off the edge, of the Man -In-The- Moon

brought the truth to its’ knees….not a minute too soon.

blowin’ holes in the cheese…..like my mind.

He was ….FINE

DOUBLE-TIME

Droppin’ words never heard….like a prophet sublime.

power …all tangled up in his hair

whispered History ….did he miss me ????

blind…. by the length of my stare ?

Caught up like a fool ….who forgot to undress.

but jumped in the pool …anyway.

too late I jumped in….and forgot how to swim.

lost in that voice with no choice…I WAS ..,in.

Teased like a stray breeze ….tracing places to moments unroamed.

words slipped from his lips.

like a candle……slow burns

dancing right down to the bone

Made me feel “twilight –crazy” …..all  anointed …and hazy

He gave all he was….in a million parts

sifting through the screen of time.

made me… long

 to ..belong…..

to him….

for a time.

All alone in his …..in his zone.

in his vibe.

schmoozing blues….till he sat by my side.

As close….became closer

He drew into me.

as we smoldered….and chatted

sipping….” Sax-A–Phrase  tea.

knee-to-Knee ….soul to soul

as the candles grew dim

So it was on the night a pOet walked in.

there's this one guy i know with the voice of a tree - blows me away everytime he reads ... only problem is i get so stuck on his voice i rarely hear his words ... oops ...

i especially like these lines:

Smiled jazz with his face

Lost in that voice with no choice..mind....spinnin sin

i started this piece one time about how cologne should be illegal around me - there's some scent some men wear that drives me crazy and i've never gotten an answer about what it is exactly - this poem makes me want to finish that one ...

once again - nice write ... it's tight ... peace, marie

O to have the power of THE man! Purrfect timing and a semi-drunk audience that's warmed up and in the mood! Ach, wonderful stuff! A-sippin' slippin' an' schmoozing!

what a delightfully YUMMY poem - love the rhythm of this, the soft, magical and "bluesy" imagery - and the WHOLE THING overall!

I must say that this is the perfect description of spoken word pieces..It wasn't until the end that I realized I was only reading this and I wasn't indeed sitting there watching this poet perform..and this piece..wow!..with every single line I was drawn deeper and deeper; being sucked in with every word, every syllable, every letter..this was truly amazing..great work :)

okay holy s**t.

i dont think we're friends yet. we need to change that.

this is why i created this contest - so i could tap into some of the raw, amazing talent that i know is on this site.

this is freakin' fantastic. i was transported to another time, in my mind it was all speak-easy and underground smooth jazz, lol. this was amazing.

funny, cuz just yesterday i got on a kick where i was texting my friends saying "let's listen to jazz music and smoth cigarillos." i dont know, but i was obsessed with the random idea.

and you gave it to me here. :)

this is .... incredible.

hugs!

Simply wonderful. You really have a jazzy style to your writing that really gets under the skin (in a good way). I love how your writing puts the reader in the same spell you were under with this powerful poet.

What rhythm and rhyme, girl. I love it. Time to bring back Old School, because this is awesome. I read through this twice and I wanted to dance. You can feel it. Could hear this put to music. Are you a musician at all? If I didn't know better, I'd say you play the guitar or something. Very well done.

I loved this poem in it's richly flavored scenes, scenes which you could smell,
see. Eyes roaming to capture every detail:).

Stunning piece!!And you didn't send it to me to read!
What wonderful metaphors at hearing poetry that inspired you........so many lines I loved!
Such a nazzy, jazzy feel to it...........reminds me very much of the Poetry Cafe in London, where some
readers are just amazing, full of life as was this piece.
