'Crinkle Crags' takes off its cloudy crown,

Revealing in golden sunlight's breaking rays,

Unmistakable undulations in rugged desolation,

Step serrated crags, gaunt gullies in depression,

A dramatic delight flourishing in procession.

Wild! Ruination, a raging mountains mountain,

A hokey cokey dance set in rock and stone,

A conga of ridges in rhythmic flows,

Bestowing a musical extravaganza in lofty place,

A crazy madcap song performed at break neck pace.

Beware though its joys, explore with a caution,

To the unwary, the crags make many fools in pathless mist,

Jesters of the steep shattered slippery scree,

For valour's best side should be shown due respect,

Most especially in chock stone gullies like the 'Bad Step'.

Author's Note

John Phoenix Hutchinson.
Crinkle Crags' seen here with 'Bowfell'in the background is without doubt one of the best ridge walks you can do in 'Lakeland' its not just the mountain itself that makes it so but the wonderful views that unfold and display as you make your way up and down the adventure that is the five crinkles. The notorious 'Bad Step' a steep declivity along the ridge can be easily traversed with little difficulty or with some help and a short rope conquered! I can say hand on heart this fell is exhilarating and very highly recommended, make sure its a fine day as you would not want the get lost in the mist up here and not to see panorama would be a very great shame.

Perhaps one day I could be your guide.............
Serendipity wins again. I don't know what led me to have a peep in my read requests. But this is a great read. Very positive. A strong poem of a beloved place. And the strength and character of the place is in every line of the poem.

I'll watch out for more of yours now.

I love serendipity dont you especially when its mixed with a bit of synchronicity cant beat it.
Your poetry has a way of making me feel like I've been to the places you evoke...it's hard for me to approach your work from a technical angle, which is a compliment...your images are vivid, your scenes are picturesque, and your forms (in this case, the rhymes that close each stanza) never fail to compliment your sentiments seamlessly...great work as always John.

Always a pleasure my friend.
I loved this! :) It reminds me of these old stairs that I climbed in Yosemite, made of crumbling rocks. Thanks for sharing.
