I picked up the pile of clothes and started hanging all of them. Bridger closed the door and walked into the room. He got the same idea as me. He opened his bags and started unpacking, “What’re your plans for the day Russ?”

The hanger slid in nicely to one of my shirts, “I need to find a new studio and teacher.”

“Hmm,” I heard him rustling around in his closet. “Well let’s go then.”

My head stuck out from inside the closet, “What?”

Bridger had stepped out of the closet and was looking on the desk that was in our room. He held up his keys, “Everyone’s so busy they will hardly realize that we’re missing.” My face twisted slightly, “Listen Russel, I can’t stand to see you standing unhappy on the football sidelines anymore. You weren’t made for football, you were made for dance. Now I’m going to do all I can to make sure that you can do that. So let’s go.”

A smile spread widely across my face and I jumped over to Bridger. He took me in his arms and embraced me. “I love you!” I practically screamed out loud.
“You know that I love you too.” We both walked out to the car and slipped in. He was right no one noticed us leaving. The keys turned in the ignition and we were off. With great ease he slid his phone out of his pocket, “I have one phone call to make.” We sat in silence for a moment until the person on the other line picked up. “Hey baby,” I knew exactly who it was. Harper had been his girlfriend since his sophomore year. He had met her in my ballet class. She and I had known each other since I danced at that studio. There was no doubt in my mind that she would go far with dancing. Many different times we were given duets together. We’ve grown very close over the past few years. I was very excited when she and Bridger got together.

Bridger touched his screen and turned the phone to speaker, “Russ is here,”

“Russel, how are you?”

My body leaned over the phone that Bridger was holding in his hand, “I’m good, how are you?”

“Fine thanks, what can I help my two finest boys out with?”

Bridger smiled goofy showing his embarrassment, “What was that academy you were telling me about earlier?”

“Ah, is it that time already?” Bridger laughed and she continued, “Russ there’s this great ballet academy there it’s called Lake City Ballet, I’ve pulled a few strings and got you an interview with them. My cousin Danielle works in their administration office. When you go in just ask for her.”

“Harper you’re the best.” I was giddy in my seat practically jumping up and down.

Bridger took the phone off speaker. “I love you babe, I’ll call you later I promise.” He waited for a reply. A tiny laugh left the space between his lips. When she was gone he put the phone in his pocket. “I hope you don’t mind us going behind your back and doing this.”

“Not one bit,”

We pulled up to a small theatre located in downtown Salt Lake. Bridger found a parking place and we ran to the theatre, we actually ran. Energy was pumping through me I could hardly contain it. My hands ripped the door open and I stepped in. My nose lifted in the air and I smelt the aroma of Ballet. Bridger hit me in the arm, “I’ll go find where we’re supposed to go. Look around.” He punched my shoulder and walked off. He and I were the only ones, luckily, who didn’t get the red hair. There’s nothing wrong with it, but when your whole family has red hair, it’s a little obnoxious.

Softly I walked across the floor. The old wood cracked underneath my feet. I looked up to all the pictures on the wall, each of them black and white photos from previous ballets. I looked at the magnificent forms that each male dancer had. Each muscle bulged from their legs. I looked down to my own thighs, I wasn’t too bad.

The soft patter of feet caught my attention. The doors to the auditorium were open. Quietly I walked to the top of the theatre. A kid about my age was down on the stage. He wore a tight leotard with a sweater on top. His legs were kicking high as he was practicing his leaps. My shoulders leaned against the door frame and watched. His black hair spun with the rest of his torso. Sweat poured from his body in a very attractive manner. Pink had appeared on his usually tan face. Blue eyes watched the ground below as he tried to make his mark. There was one leap that he couldn’t get. He was over spinning in the beginning of the jump.

“Don’t force it,” I yelled down the stairs. His body came to a complete stop and he looked up towards me. “You’re pushing too hard, relax.”

“What would you know?”

I pushed myself off the door frame and walked further into the auditorium, “A lot actually.”

“If you’re so great come down here and do it.”

I wasn’t one to back down from a challenge. The toe of my shoe ripped off the heel of my other one. When both my shoes were off I walked down the steps one at a time. The man’s hands were on his waist and he was catching his breath. His bright blue eyes looked down on me as if he was better than me. I took my spot on the corner of the stage. My body relaxed immediately as I took my usual ballet position. My leg muscles clamped and I ran forward slightly. My arms spun around sending my body in a circle. At the last minute I jumped high off the ground. My body soared freely through the air comfortably. This is where I preferred to be. When my feet came close to the ground I again relaxed and sunk into the landing. My knees bent cushioning the force. I waited to make sure I had all my balance before I spun.

The boy’s face was surprised, “I’ve been working on that for over a year now.” He spoke loudly to me.

“It took me awhile too.” A smile spread across my face and the boy tried to give one back. The mood in the room changed, “I’m Russel Shaw.” I said trying to change the mood.

His hand stuck out, “Parker Reeves.” Our hands slid together nicely. I gave him my brightest smile, “what’re you doing here?”

I pulled my hand out from his, “I have an interview with Danielle. I’m trying to get in here.”

Parker laughed and bent down, “With that leap I don’t doubt you will.” He started to stretch his legs. A churning bubbled in my stomach as I looked at each muscle in his strong thighs. His legs stiffened and his hands touched the ground. “Are you from here?”

“Reno,” I said quickly trying to distract myself. His dark hair was cut but kept a little longer. Strands fell from where he had placed them when he bent down. The veins in his forearms stuck out like tiny rivers flowing through his arms. His body bent backwards and he stretched his other half.

“Reno’s cool,” He said strained from the stretching. “Where are you going to go to school?”

My father had told me, now I racked my brain to try and find the answer. Parker quit his stretching and looked at me. His fingers wiped the strands of hair out of his face and waited for my reply. “Westview,” I asked in a questioning tone?

“That’s where I go, it’s nice,” He walked over to his bags and I followed. Without hesitation he stood on one foot and took off his shoes. They slipped into this black bag nicely, “What brings you to the wonderful Salt Lake City?”

“My dad got the head football coach job.” It was so easy to talk to Parker. Every question he asked I had an answer and it came out smoothly. It was almost as if he hand I were in the same mental place.

He slid some sweat pants on over his leotard and looked at me, “Oh, and what does the big football coach think about having his son in Ballet?”

My feet shifted and I looked down to the wooden floor, “He doesn’t exactly know.”

Parker smiled with laughter, “Good for you.” What was that supposed to mean? Before I asked he moved on, “I better get going. Danielle will be down that hall right there.” His hand pointed up the stairs and through the doors. A white hallway sat right next to the doors.

He stepped past me grazing my shoulder. A chill ran up my spine and I spun around, “Will I see you again?”

Hayden spun around also, “Russel was it?” My head nodded, “You can see me as much as you want.” There was an emphasis on the ‘you’ in his sentence.

“Wait,” I ran down the stairs after him he spun again and sighed, “You dance beautifully.” I was trying anything I could to get him to stay. This was the first time in months I’d felt comfortable with anyone around me. Everything ran so smoothly when I was with him.

Tentatively his hand picked up from his side. His blue eyes watched my whole face carefully. He was waiting for my reaction. The hand slid to the side of my face. His thumb and pointer finger wrapped around my ear and the rest of the fingers tucked in behind my neck. My breathing quickened and my heart raced, “Thank you.” He whispered inches from my face, “I’m sure I’ll be able to say the same for you very soon.”

The skin on his hand warmed my face as he slid it down to my jaw. He cupped the space under my jaw. His thumb stroked the point of my jaw over and over again. Minutes felt like long and beautiful hours. It was obvious that I was gay, I knew that. But I’d never actually kissed a boy before. This was the closest I’d ever come in contact with the opposite sex besides my brothers. “I’ve never kissed a guy before.”

Hayden’s lips were inches from mine. The nervousness got the best of me and I panicked. His lips spread into a bright smile, “not here then.” His hand dropped from my jaw forcing my mouth to drop open to the floor. I tried to protest his leaving but he raised his hand up and covered my lips, “You don’t want to waste such a wonderful thing on someone you hardly know.” He stroked my cheek one last time, “I’ll take you to Danielle.”
