Listen White Fella

Listen White Fella

A Poem by KWP
"

A corroboree - an event where Australian Aborigines interact with the Dreamtime through dance, music & costume.Dreamtime - place beyond time and space in which the past, present, and future exist as 1

"

Welcome White Fella

Come sit with me

My mob and I welcome you

To our Corroboree

Let us visit the Dreamtime

We can once again see

Many gift  laid out before us

Originating in eternity

My mob pass down stories

Connecting through dance and song

Reminding us of creation

Dreamtime interaction all life long

Listen White Fella

To the gift that we share

Knowledge of the land

Life, it’s beating everywhere

You see what Dreamtime tells us

A sacred, heroic time long ago

Man and nature came alongside

Each other in this show

For you see what Dreamtime tells us

We were created to take heed

To respect the home that is our land

Replenish the cycle of need

Our ancestors stories tell us

The relationship we require

To uphold our connectedness

Between the earth, water, wind and fire

Deep lodged in our hearts

We respect every aspect of our land

For we are part of the everywhen

Woven intricate by the eternal hand

Our culture has taught us

To be still and wait

There is no need to hurry

No need to chase after our fate

Nothing be more important

Than the moment we are in

Weather collecting food, or ceremony

Or watching over our kin

We have learnt to flow

With the current in living

Taking from nature

Yet understand the giving

I think you White Fella’s got distracted

When you started thinking in me

How could this ever work

When all we have is WE?

Dreamtime is filled with everywhen

But you must choose to see

The connectedness thats all around

Even connecting you to me

We have a word ‘Dadirri’

Mean’s deep listening, awareness, quiet and still

When we practice this we reconnect

To what matters, keeps our hearts and souls fulfilled

I thank you White Fella

For joining our Corroboree

We gift you of our ancient knowledge

With fresh eyes you too can see

Recently I have been thinking a lot about Australian Aboriginal Philosophies, Life & Beliefs, they are all very beautiful that many a white man does not understand ... I wanted to try and write a poem from their perspective ... I encourage all reviews please :)

This is beautiful. Having met a number of charming Aborigines, seen their skills and listened to their accounts of Dreamtime philosophy, I feel that politics and segregation have done so much harm to the indigenous population. It's not as though it has replaced the old cultures with something better .
Your poem has brought back some very pleasant memories for me. Thankyou

Norman

Great perspective here within the philosophical area. I enjoyed it very much.

i like this, and it reminds me of the native americans who welcomed us here in america...they fed us, taught us about the land, and then rather than dance with them, we tore them apart, killed them, stole the land and ruined it...
all they wanted to do was be our friends and to share...

this poem is uplifting...there is an awakening in the white fella...wish we would have had that same awakening way back when.

I like your review Jacob. Very true.
This is so cool. I think about Aborigines whenever I think about Australia. We studied them in anthropology when I was in college. I wonder, have they pretty much assimilated into modern Australian society? I think how similar they are to Native Americans in our country, as they are so in touch with their spirituality and the land. I could talk for hours on the subject, but back to your poem. As you can probably tell, I enjoyed it very much; great flow, great story.

A wonderful story - filled with images that keep the reader connected. You have a beautiful writing style that is easy to read as much as it is entertaining. Truly a delight to learn about this culture.

I've always been fascinated by the folklore and the philosophy of the (American) indians and the aboriginese. you did a great job here, K. in fact it's so well penned that I'm wondering if you don't really belong to this mob you're talking about. is that really your photo?
