Own Your Humanity

Own Your Humanity

A Poem by KWP
"

.... just imagine for one second ....

"

you know

it’s funny

well actually it is not funny

at all

in our world

we are taught

toughness is a virtue

if you lack strength

you will not succeed

to succeed is paramount

you know

survival of the fittest

and all that ….

but tell me

how is it we define success?

is it turning a blind eye

to innocents caught up in an age old war?

is it looking the other way

when we see the young sex workers of Asia?

is it turning away boats filled with

people only seeking their little piece of paradise?

is it the refusal to give

when we can clearly see others are in need?

is it being so opinionated

we forget to stop and understand the real life consequences

of opinions of the blind masses?

it it serving ourselves

to get ahead?

is it getting obese in civilisation

caught up in eating our troubles away

whilst munching on a burger viewing

stories of those close to starvation

on our hundred inch television screens?

is it observing with inward questioning

as sentient beings are slaughtered, killed and dissected

to appease our ever growing hunger?

is it having enough money to laugh at the world

and not give a rat’s a*s the world cannot laugh

with you?

and of course the list goes on

no………no……..no!

it cannot be

surely we have all been lead astray

for none of that can mean success

and on the exhale

imagine if you will

just for a second

if instead of being taught by

society

to measure ourselves on success

imagine

if only for a moment

we were taught to

OWN OUR HUMANITY

each of us

individually

so all of us collectively

can enjoy the gift

of existence

right here

right now

tell me how do you see the world

if it was

that we all were taught to

own our humanity ?

right you are, right you are .... ahhh it's nice to have a purpose XXX
I'd like to settle on the part of this about succeeding, we have followed for so many years the belief that we have to push harder and faster, life seems to be about being the best and competing as a country to get more orders for our goods and beat the competition, its a headlong dash to our doom, they say if we cannot compete with our neighbor countries we'll probably starve, i can no longer understand this view, i have heard it for years and years, since i was a child and we are still floundering to compete and be the best, time for a change of mind and heart i reckon your poem should be taught in school as a life class on how to live, so well done Aussie bird and apologies for hijacking your poem with my rant :) XXX

I think we all perceive success in our own ways,
but your piece had me thinking for sure:)

thanks J - much love X
yes, success is having a good deal of humanity...it means much more than being a have over the have not's.

so well expressed...

You really stepped up and expressed your opinion and you are spot on. We are for the most part a comparmentaizeed society. Everything outside of our compartment is not of our concern or need to worry about. We also seem to feel if it is a real problem a government will fix the problem as the leaders of the governments line their pockets with the money collect and live the high life as the people starve.

It is far beyond an individual issue, but each of us as an individual must change our mindset before we can get the world into action.

Yes that's my soap box and it's your fault for writing such a great truth in prose.
