Not Till Then!

Not Till Then!

A Poem by Kay Salisu Titilola
"

...

"
Looking at my past so gloom and scary,
I saw my paths dappled with so many blunders.
These throbbing memories never stop haunting me,
even though I tried not to ever remember.

When guilt and shame kept me in fear and pain,
then I realized that past are not meant to be erased.
The deeds are done but correction can be made.
Then why do I have to die before my day.

Some memories - both good and bad - remain etched in our brain. We can try to concentrate on the good ones, but those bad memories can never be entirely erased. An emotive, poetically expressed poem. Thank you for sharing!

Such a strong piece!
Shame and regret are like wounds. And forgiveness is the only balm that can make the pain bearable. Unfortunately, memories are like scars. Always there to remind us.
Well penned, Kay.

That was a powerful insight, Sonnie.
The best thing is just to move on.
The hardest thing to do is forgive yourself for the mistakes we make and move on ... there has only been one perfect person, and look what they did to Him.

Good one Kay

Thank you for stopping by, Ted.
Difficult if not impossible to erase memories. They are the foundation of who we are though. Yes, we can change to ensure we never go through the same negativity we have in the past. LydI**

Thanks for your supportive review, Lydia.
If we don't change things, things would change us.
Taking a thought out of your mind doesn't remove the original memory, it just makes a copy of it. I learned that a long time ago. The more you try to take it out the stronger the memory gets, it seems. This poem of yours speaks to me, I'm sure it does a lot of people. We spend so much time trying to change the past, desperately believing time travel is possible while ignoring the much more history-changing feat of preventing such things from happening in the first place. But yes, where would we be today without the ability to 'correct' ourselves. Nicely penned, wonderfully explained, and expressed, Kay. tyfs

That was insightful, Cyprian.
I appreciate it.
Hello my new poet friend,
All of us look back into our lives and have concerns about what could have been, what could we have done...
Guilt and shame haunts many of us and because of this we do not move forward.
I believe that we must forgive ourselves...one can not erase the past...we all know that...but we can always make the future better.
Very good read.

'When guilt and shame kept me in fear and pain,

i read this part over and over
not because i did not understand but because i do!
we can hide from others but not ourselves ... it is as it is
most often we erase what we don't want but it still remains
we may walk when we are dead inside

a most striking poem ... how have i not discovered such powerful writings as yours?
thank you

Many of us experience the recall of unpleasant memories, which is odd because they serve no purpose. As the poem states, what happened can be used as a corrective. We must learn to dwell in the present moment and let the dead bury the dead. Not sure of the meaning of the last line.

You are welcome.
"Why do I have to die before my day" —makes me think that the person doesn't get a chance to fix the mistakes of his past because it is already too late... it ix a very powerful poem, the past can not be erased but we have it in us to fix our mistakes before time runs out on us.
