Departure

Departure

A Poem by Lathen Griffiths

A few simple words
A kiss on the cheek
A heavy sigh

A quivering lip
The bravest of smiles
A tearful eye

A hug for a friend
A trembling hand
A wave goodbye

A short three stanza poem which has much impact. Farewells aren't easy, particularly if they are permanent. A poem here which tugs on the emotions and sends the mind into flight. We all remember the departures which hurt, yet some can be exciting and provide for new opportunities. So much said here in a little brevity.

Ada
This poem reminds me of how great full we should be for the simple pleasures in life; nothing more nothing less.

Gee
On the 10/08/21 we had supper, 8 of us, round our dear friend Debs' house, as the evening ended we hugged her, kissed her cheek and wished her well with the chemo that was due to start on the 12th. On the 13th, my wife's birthday, Deb passed away.
This brought a tear to my eye :(

I’m very sorry to hear that Gee,

Kind regards,

and it is really tough walking away, even knowing we did our best to console that friend, listen to that friend, advise that friend.
life is just not always a happy ending.
a moving write...

Very true Jacob, thank you,

Lathen
This one could describe any kind of serious parting, but for some reason it puts me in mind of spouses as one departs to go to war. The last line has a touch of finality to it.
