How To Be Happy With Your Image

How To Be Happy With Your Image

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Stand in front of the mirror when you have just woken up

When your hair looks like it has been dipped into a vat of chip fat

And your eyes aren’t clogged with thick mascara and eyeliner

Stare at your reflection;

At your nose that you always thought was too big for your face

And the mole on your left cheek that you once tried to scratch off with your fingernails

Now stand back a bit and pull up your shirt

Look at your stomach;

At the fat that you always joke about and say “I wish I could give it to charity”

And at the stretch marks that look like long ago scars

When you have taken a good, long look at yourself

Open your mouth and say

“I am beautiful.”

Repeat this until you actually start to believe yourself

I simply adore this piece because this is what everyone should do in the morning. Guys and girls. The outer image isn't very important, but it is essential to feel good in your own skin in order to be happy and feel okay with yourself. If not, it can surely affect our self-esteem. And not just girls, guys have this same issue, though most don't seem to notice. If we love ourselves, inside and out, we then don't let anything bother us and lead a good life with our heads high. We won't worry about how other people see us. I feel makeup just weighs down a girls beauty anyway...it's as if its a mask that they put on to cover up who they really are. A girl should at least go one day at least without makeup, even if it could possibly be the worst day ever, I'm sure she would get a few comments on how "better" or more normal she looks without those layers of mascara, blush or eyeliner.
