You had my attention, then you had my love at the mention of Melissa Etheridge, my hero. So for this I went back and re-read with new fervor and allowed it to bake inside my brain. Phenomenol write and intriguing prose, developmental skill and highly contagious read. One of my new favorites!!

Fantastic piece of almost Canadiana (the Guess Who would have been more apropos or perhaps too predictable.) You capture what it is like to be out on the prairies in the summer and there is a wonderful winsome character to this piece, memories of old and a time gone past. This is one of my favourites you've done. Bravo.
