Chapter (14) THE GARDENERS YEAR

Chapter (14) THE GARDENERS YEAR

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

THE GARDENER'S YEAR

Winter rains from clouded skies do fall, upon the plot of land

With them the final coat of white is washed away.

The man watches behind the window pane, book in hand

his cultivation dreams must await a better day.

Spring shows her hand and brings the warmer airs

while daily sun begins to dry the sodden earth below.

Small  hibernating rodents and insects leave their secret lairs

And the man with seeds in hand awaits the time to sow.

Summer days bring growth, the plot is green and lush

Regimented rows of rooted veg stand free from choking weeds

While berries black and sweet festoon the fruiting bush

That a this man grew with love and care and seeds.

Autumns' cooler days now turns the leaves to gold.

His freezer filled, he's pleased with what he grew.

The man had much he could not use so on the markets sold.

Now he sits with books and Plans, to start it all anew.
