White Beauty

White Beauty

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

White beauty

you act so peculiar for a cat.

Why do you lie all spread out like that?

With your legs stretched out as far as you can,

You look like you could take off like superman.

Legs to the front

                and legs to the back,

Until something walks by for you to attack.

You either are batting the dog in the nose,

Or pouncing right on your people’s toes.

I've never seen a cat do that before.

All spread out

               flat on the floor.

But what really amazes me about you,

Is that you taught the dog to do it too.

This is such a cute story! I love cats, my favorate in animals. We used to have a cat at our old place, where we used to live at the ground floor. We had this cat, "Minu" - we used to call her that - who was a stray cat. Once she came and at our back door and was purring. I saw her and gave her a chappatti to eat. Since then, she used to come around daily. And in the cold nights, when it was really cold outside, she used to get up on my window sill and purr. I used to stealthily open the window and let her come in. She used to get under my bed and spend the night. Of course, I used to get a good amount of scoldings from my parents. Then one night, she had kids. And from then on, she and her kids used to live at our place, full time. I felt really bad when she died and we moved out from the place. I really miss her. I have some photographs of her even to this day.

All in all, you have a very nice write over here. I really loved it. Minu also used to do this kind of cute things. Loved it! Keep writing! ~KA~

This is awesome! I love the last line. Cats do rule the household and impress us with their agility and tricks. A well written poem, I love it!

LOL cute! I actually have a cat that does that as well. He's a long haired cat so when he's laying on comforters on the bed it looks like he's become imbeded in the blankets since the blankets and him are all at the same height while his hair flows out from him and gently tapers to the surface. Oh yeah....and he drools while he snores lol

Anyway, this is a really cute piece. I'm sure there's lots of cats that do that. Sometimes cats seem to think they're humans. It's great when they do that! :D

What a lovely and cute story. I picture your cat doing these things. This is great how you describe it all with a certain rhythm and some rhyme. Nice job!

Quick things:
-in line ten, I think it might flow better if you take out 'your'
-"I've instead of "I have" in line eleven, but I'm only suggesting that because the poem is informal
-remove "about you" in line 14

Other wise, the poem is perfect. I take care of a stray cat in my neighborhood, and she acts more like a dog than a cat. She will sit just outside of my dog's reach and while he is barking and straining at his leash, she will roll around and play with leaves. Then, once she gets bored, she strolls over and sits in the sunshine. And makes me laugh.
