White Beauty

White Beauty

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

White beauty

you act so peculiar for a cat.

Why do you lie all spread out like that?

With your legs stretched out as far as you can,

You look like you could take off like superman.

Legs to the front

                and legs to the back,

Until something walks by for you to attack.

You either are batting the dog in the nose,

Or pouncing right on your people’s toes.

I've never seen a cat do that before.

All spread out

               flat on the floor.

But what really amazes me about you,

Is that you taught the dog to do it too.

LOL Reminds me of my cat (before she was poisoned and killed by my idiot ex-neighbor). She taught my German Shepard (when she was a puppy) how to stalk squirrels. It's pretty funny watching a 90 pound German Shepard doing that. Great write.

Yep, very cute. I used to have a beagle that would lie that way. It never looked comfortable but I guess it must've been. NH

Having had several of both species, it is amazing what they pick up from each other! Very true, very funny when you place the images inside your head.

Cats are great. They're little hunters that we take into our homes. :)
