Persephone's Lament

Persephone's Lament

A Poem by Lost in Wonderland

It all happened so fast

The day the sunshine left me

Cold arms encircled my waist

Dragging me down on a charriot to hell

Arms outstretched, my lover called to me

From his river home

"Stop!
Please!

Persephone!"

I watched my Demitrius grow dim

As I was dragged down

Into a black abyss

He groped my waist,

Kissed my neck

Causing me to shudder in dread

He cooed to me,

As he would a small bird,

Calling me lovely

Wonderful,

His...

It was dark in that place,

Yet I could still see

The lick of flames from firey pits

The wilted, black roses

Hear the sounds of the dead calling to me

I would gaze at the gleam

Of the fake, crystal pomegranite tree

As he kissed me without relent

Torturing me in "an act of love"

There was sadness in those cold eyes,

Maybe thats all he wanted, love

But that isn't what he took from me

I couldn't sleep,

I couldn't eat

It was all I could do not to end myself

As I often dremed I would

It was a bitersweet fantasy that kept me sane for days

While reality was slipping through my feeble fingers

Like cool sand on the beach

Where Demitrius hels me

Sending warm shivers down my spine

Could I dare to hope

My love would rescue me?

No.

I kept up my strike persistently

Though he told me

"Eat, love, eat..."

Until I could take no more

One common midnight

When he left me,

Cold and bare,

All my beaten down body wanted

Was a fresh, crisp pomegrantite

Just as I swallowed six ruby seeds,

My mother, Apollo and Demitrius appeared next to me

I ran into his arms

Weeping like a little girl

Until an all to familiar rough hand

Pulled me back

I falling

Falling

Falling into hell...

I swallowed the seeds

Thats one of the rules

You eat, you stay

I could never truly be free

Half my life is a summer dream

Half is a bitter cold

Continuously taunting me

I hold my child in my arms

Singing softly

I detested to have the son of the devil

But as I gaze down at my childs blond hair

And ocean blue eyes

I am reminded of my true love back home

Where for six months he waits

As I rule this dark and dismal puratory that I hate
