Lost

Lost

A Poem by Cookie
"

I don't have a description for this. It's like most of my writing.

"
Two girls walk down the dirt road,
Side by side, shoulders touching, holding hands
Hair braided together in a single braid,
As though they were one

They look the same,
Their eyes are blue, their hair is reddish brown,
Dyed blonde, dyed blue, dyed black, dyed back red
Frizzy and curly and out of control.
Their skin is the palest beautiful white,
Perfect,
Beautiful girls.

They skip together,
Running, walking
Down the road,
Jumping over potholes,
Skipping in puddles,
Giggling and laughing like little girls,
Or best friends or sisters might.
Occasionally stopping to look into the woods,
To see a path they want to go down
But they're both too scared
To be lost
to follow it
And so they keep walking down the road

They each wear ratty old jeans,
Years old,
but fit perfectly
They each wear a black tshirt,
they each wear bracelets
to hide the cuts,
the internal battle they've both fought for years.
They each wear a necklace,
with a golden dove
hanging from a tiny golden chain
A Christmas gift from their grandfather when they turned eight,
Each with a silver,
Heart-shaped locket
hanging from an old silver chain,
diamonds lining the heart, scratches on the back,
nothing but the other inside,
A gift from their grandmother
when they were four years old
"they'll remember me by it when I'm dead," she said.

Each girl walks
one foot after the other
staring off into space
arms swinging by her side
unfocused, unsure of herself,
lost
staggering into the future,
not knowing what to expect
and scared to change directions
but not knowing now where to go

One girl runs her fingers though her hair,
the other girl rips hers out,
they both scream in pain,
they both bleed,
then they collapse together,
they cry together,
they hold each other,
and they scream together

their

voices
screams
thoughts
bodies

mold

into one girl

one voice
one scream
one thought
one body

One girl, with blue eyes,
with reddish brown hair,
Dyed many times over
Frizzy and curly and out of control
One pale skinned, tall girl
One beautiful girl here
One beautiful girl gone.

Just one
lonely
girl

lost
