Tomorrow Lost

Tomorrow Lost

A Poem by Neville

Tomorrow Lost

Let us raise

Our glasses

To all those

Times

When dreams

Were not enough

To all those

Hurts

We hide behind

And the time

Your smile

Turned

Upside down

When our

Beloved blues

Assumed

The shade of

Absent bruise

The smallness of

Another day

Yes let's drink

To all

Tomorrows lost

And moments

Shed like reptile skins

Along the way

Now long forgot

I find it's always best to remember the good in situations and people and erase the not so good Neville. I would certainly raise my glass to that. Bad moments should not define the whole and there are always two sides to every story. This poem speaks in a tone I am unfamiliar with, though it is well written and has some excellent lines. I especially like the second stanza.

Sorry I've been immersed in writing & not reading you lately! I love this poem. I love the way you make it sound all cheerful, but the actual life details you depict are pretty depressing (great contrast). As if letting go of all the s**t were so simple & done with the mere switch of a calendar year or decade! *sigh!* Nicely ironic (((stings))) fondly, Margie

Cheers busy You and truly.... (Nips) fondly..
Your poem is so true Neville. You have managed to combine some superb images with a direct message which is no easy trick. The last two verses are great. I can only speak for myself but I guess most of us hide the hurt and put the smile back on. I think we are I experts in self delusion
Hope all is well
Cheers.

It is so easy to allow a tumult to tumble into the todays...I often get struck by the futility of allowing many fruits to wither because of the taste of one bad morsel:) Given my malformed memory I have a built in disparity decompressor so in this arena I'm kinda lucky:) That's not to say I would raise a glass to satan but I do have a regularly modified sketcher... I however will raise a glass to the Nev anytime:)

intellectually stimulating play with time Nev! universally emotive says i ... we all have pasts peppered with smiles upside down and right side up ... music that spring boards us to dreams ... how inventive my friend .. as we all sit and reminisce ... we loose the now and easily tomorrow as well ... at least that is my take on it ... take it or leave it ... no matter tho ... i'll raise a glass with you ... not today tho...i am beer fasting for my yearly physical tomorrow ;))))))))

Better to believe the glass be half full, than half empty, that way the hurts are easier to leave behind.

Cheers!

' Yes let's drink - To all - Tomorrows lost - And moments - Shed like reptile skins - Along the way - Now long forgot .'

Neville, this really is how thoughts, memories and emotions should and can be addressed in poetry. Each stanza holds a valuable lesson. Beautiful.

Not quite as elegant as the poem, but laughs me!
Wonderfully written as always. We really should remember only the good things and not the bad ones as we get to live only once. So this "one" life should definitely be celebrated. Great choice of words 👍

You're welcome and it's my pleasure to read such good work :)
I'll offer a toast here, Neville. Your poem speaks from not only experience but wisdom. You acknowledge the past but clearly encourage the reader to allow history to be history and look forward. This is a poem about hope and all the good that can come with a positive, forward looking perspective.

A late response but so much appreciated my friend..sometimes I worry about taking a vacation.....
When the echoes of the past finally subside enough to go unheard, but still reverberate like a pre wuake grumbling felt through the soles of our feet.
Cheers i say, goodbye and good riddance. (not you, the echoes)
Now, one last round should about do it, to finally kill off their memory for good. But really Nev, was flaming zamboucas really necessary? 😀
