I started your book over the weekend & I'm amazed at: (1) how many poems (all excellent) . . . (2) how it feels like I've never read any of these poems yet, despite reading you here for years . . . (3) somehow I find I immerse myself into your words even more, with a book in hand, sitting on an easy chair on my shady deck & not sitting at a computer in my usual "reviewing routine"! As for this poem here, I am reminded of an old friend who looked me up recently . . . he was incapable of warm interactions in an ordinary way, instead he was compelled to "do good deeds" as if desperate to bargain with God, etc. Some people can only "love" when it involves being needed (((SHRUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Good and proper has such an old fashioned ring to it. People love in different ways. The she here certainly shows she has a heart and is capable of much loving. I am pondering on the he here. It doesn't seem that his needs are being matched. He doesn't feel loved in the way he wants to be loved and that is sad. We all need to feel we are loved. Some people express it with more passion than others. This is a man of passion methinks. That's where you took me Neville with your lines.
