Dreams dancing by the Sea

Dreams dancing by the Sea

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

Waves crashing upon a heart that washed up

on the silver sands of memory when time was made

of measured moments in the heat of delicate

breezes that tease when a Cardinal rests on my

shoulder to caress the mist of morning against a

turquoise sky with passing ships of yesterday

when a Sailor would return with gifts from

Ports O' Call when love endured through storms

and dangerous rendezvous of treacherous tethering

to reach the Lady of his Destiny...

The best part about this poem is how it feels like a gushing stream-of-consciousness stated in imagery. I love the seashore theme that ties everything together & I also love the various tangents of imagination along the way. Since I can't imagine a cardinal on the seashore (thinking of this bird as more of a woodland creature), I read this as a symbol for the angel that rests upon one's shoulder, a loved-one separated for some reason, maybe death, or location, or virus concerns. I love how the reading flows forth with urgency & power, enhanced by having no "sentence" breaks (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I like the sea shells and the rocks dear Pat. The sea always willing to give us gifts.
The world of memories could be so breathtakingly beautiful, I could never imagine. We read of sadness, grief, but this beauty...? I'm awed reading this. Heaven resides in your words, Ms. Pat. Loved, just loved the ships of yesterday. Thanks for such beauty of words...

A passionate poem of love and destiny, of yesteryear along with lovely, vivid images; misty mornings, waves crashing,, turquoise sky, awaiting the return of one’s love, though a treacherous feat to accomplish; very well written an flows like a dream!

Dearest Pat, your two lines stanzas here have transported me to sandy shores, sparkling waters and romance. I have my own sailor, once in the merchant navy. I love this poem, it is so uplifting.

Sailors and pirates are so romanticized and for good reason I suppose. We love men who live for adventure and embrace danger.

Beautiful poem, Patricia!
