Hummingbird nesting.

Hummingbird nesting.

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Dreams of a world where hummers have secret hide-a-ways.

"
Hummers build their nests from October to early June

looking for a perfect thimble design embedded on a

clothesline or in an  obscure bed of bluebells where

butterflies feed on honeysuckle vines...

Delicate and intelligent... they reminence about their plans

for Christmas lights where fireflies dance against a

stormy sky upon a Midnight clear...

Ghosts and goblins gather for trick or treat

protecting the nests from predators...

as the hummers provide warmth and caring for their brood.

Autumn slides into winter when we settle down for cosy nights and delights of togetherness. Warmth comes through here Pat despite winter being a season of coldness and lack of colour. Love how your little avian friends and nature weave a silken thread through these lovely thoughts. Warm wishes from me to you with all that lies before you in the coming months. So visual is your work. You paint pictures in my mind.

I love how your poem covers everything we're imagining this time of year . . . hummingbirds (becuz they're still plentiful in my garden daily), Christmas lit fireflies, stormy skies, & trick or treat! But to think about bird nesting at this time of year was a surprise! I've never looked for hummingbird nests, but they must be around here somewhere, since there are so many hovering! Love how I can feel all your flighty imagery! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I love your description of the Hummer’s nests; where we live, they simply nest somewhere in a nearby sourwood tree and fly, sputtering around from there to our feeders on our deck; but your Description is much more lovely and interesting...they seem to be very focused upon their plans no matter the Christmas lights, ghosts and goblins, etc...vivid images in this interesting poem; always love your play with words Pat; yours, Betty

Watching hummingbirds suck the nectar from a flower is absolutely mesmerizing. You are friend of the birds, no doubt about it. The hummingbirds have to prepare for the winter. They have to protect their families....just as we do. Lovely words. Lydi**
