The strength of Motherhood

The strength of Motherhood

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

A Mother bird forages for food as she

flies through meadows and lofty woods...

along bubbling brooks where mushrooms grow

in warm sunny spots on dampened moss...

High in a Sycamore tree there is a nest where

five wee beeks are open wide waiting for

a delicious worm that was born to nourish

fledglings and even to catch a sunfish on a

string and a pole where time was spent at

a water hole where little boy blue and a

pink bonnet girl gathered their dreams in a

wicker basket full of sunflower seeds for

busy Mother birds with hungry fledglings...

This is a truly beautiful world and I sit here reading it again and again, taking in a mother's universal quest among bubbling brooks and sycamore trees. The pink and blue clad cherubs giving a helping hand to nature. Your words renew the reader's faith on the earth and it's myriad of creatures...

Mothers are indeed strong in their cherished roles. They sacrifice and toil for their fledgling youngsters. Motherhood is a light and a beacon to all. You poetry is one too.

Your love of our avian friends and the natural environment shines through Pat in these uplifting lines. Yes, I have watched the diligence of birds as they seek nourishing food to feed their young. It is a delight to witness. The little girl and boy in your poem remind me of the times my deceased brother and I would spend in the countryside together. Walking, exploring and having adventures. A year apart, we were close and spent much time together when young. Your writes always provide me with a feast of lovely imagery. Thank you for the blessing of your poetry. Sending all good wishes to you and yours from across the pond.
