Something, which left me smiling too.

Something, which left me smiling too.

A Story by Amada
"

That stranger who made me smile.

"

I was at a bus depot. As I stood there waiting, I saw an old woman, visually impaired, inquiring about the bus timings. After a long wait, the bus arrived.

“Bikaner station?” she asked, hesitantly.

“Yes,” I replied.

My fear came true, the bus was jam-packed. Yet, she was doing her utmost to board the bus. “Please don't. Let it go,” I pulled her back.

“But..but, I'm already late son,” she said.

“Let’s wait for another,” I said.

The bus had departed. And so, I initiated a conversation with her. We hardly spoke for few minutes, before the next bus arrived. Everyone rushed and so did I. It would have been stupid to miss the bus again.

So, I grabbed an empty seat immediately.

‘S**t’, I thought, ‘I forgot about her.’ I cursed myself for being so careless. But then, it was too late to go back. So, I waited for a while. Many boarded but still she was nowhere to be seen.

“Be careful!”" I heard a voice.

I looked back. Finally! There she was, holding the hands of a girl. The girl swiftly helped the old lady board the bus and looked for a seat. Fortunately, she spotted one.

The lady thanked that girl, to which, she smiled. In the process, the girl had to stand, because all of the seats were occupied. I offered her mine, which she politely declined. The girl seemed tired but satisfaction on her face was clearly evident.

Something, which left me smiling too!

This sounds like a true story. You do a great job showing us how every detail happened & there seems to be a lesson, like an allegory. I see your forgetful thoughtlessness compared to the young girl's selflessness. Your story puts the two things together as if asking us to make a choice about what kind of person we want to be. You are very honest to admit to your mistakes without excuses. Sometimes the best way to show a lesson is to be humble & show our mistakes (((HUGS))) fondly, Margie
