Speak

Speak

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Wish I had done it sooner

"
Sure I had nothing of value to say,
I said nothing

Not wanting my voice to get in the way,
I said nothing

Share an opinion I just knew was wrong
I said nothing

Defend an issue where my feelings were strong
I said nothing

Until all my words began a campaign
They had a meeting inside my brain
They said "We're suffocating here,
with more thoughts coming every year."
They sent an ambassador to my ear -
"Speak! It's only YOU you fear!"

And so I did.

Hurrah! I am so glad you did! I needed this today! So many messages meant just for me coming through in RR's. Thank you, Rita.

That's great! Angi, I'm glad I sent this to you - there are no coincidences! Thanks for reading!
I agree with quinfinn on this. I have not stopped since I found my voice.
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything, they tell you.
I say, speak your mind and don't worry about offending people, you are not here to apologize for their sensibilities nor to make amends for them taking offense. Speak your mind, be not apologetic.

More simply put, people need to grow a tougher skin...!

Thank you. It's a sentiment I express in my classes. Took me years, but I also never looked back on.. read more

good for you!
This is what I felt like so much, before I started writing poetry! I just held in all my emotions, but then one day I just couldn't bare with it any longer and the words just spewed across the page! I like the way the first 8 lines are similar and then BAM your mind took over.

Thank you for this, Marc!
I looooove this. (Smiling from ear to ear & doing a little dance) "campaign... inside my brain", perfect wording. We should all speak it is our gift.

Great work, Rita. I love the inner conflict and the personification of your pent up words. One of your best :)
