On the Day of Goodbye

Tomorrow is guaranteed to no one

On the day of goodbye

will we know it is this?

 

Will we part with affection,

with embrace or sweet kiss?

 

Or will I be bitter

and push you away,

 

Sure we’ll reconcile

on a less turbulent day

 

Tomorrow’s  uncertain,

a fact not to defy;

 

We cannot predict

that day of goodbye

IF GOODBYE WERE FORESEEABLE WE WOULD NEVER LET IT HAPPEN.....it brought me to my emotional knees , reading this. for i remember those sad goodbyes which weren't meant to happen, and i have lamented every single one throughout the years. this is profoundly sad and yet, beautiful. well done, Rita.

wish we could. how much easier and happier things would be if we knew when things would come to end. we'd live our lives fuller, value our time more meaningfully, treasure each other like we deserve to be treasured... or we'd be even more bitter and greedy than we already are. perhaps it would be best to leave life how it is.

Thank you for reading and reviewing! Yes, I think the Universe knows what it is doing. I lost a close friend in a car accident at 22, (unexpected) and watched my father die of cancer over the course of a year. For neither was I really "prepared" - but I am wiser now, and work toward no regrets.

oh i'm so sorry for your losses... it's always painful to lose loved ones... it is good that you are wiser now, and that you have moved past the pain. I lost my older brother a few months ago; he was a Marine. It's hard to move past.

This is one of those poems where it just sticks with you. It's been kind of reverberating in my head since I read it, so I'm sure I will have the message close for a long while.
