Shore Birds

Shore Birds

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

The gulls call “mine”

in view of the ocean,

grabbing for the catch,

snatching from their own

Stern demeanor

never changing

even when the jackpot

is claimed

Yes, they are the same bird-brained creatures everywhere. That bit of the seagulls saying "mine" over and over is a treasure my family discovered in "Finding Nemo" too. When we drive over to Asilomar Beach, the gulls are like a plague. They will even crowd on the front of your car to see what you are eating inside. I once saw a seagull in Disney World swoop in like a predator to steal a little boy's hot dog -- my, how he squalled -- and so did the other gulls when they went chasing after the prize their brother had swiped! You portrayed them aptly.

I love those little birds that feed along the shore...I can't think of the name, right now. They eat food that is washed up by the waves...but they hate getting their feet wet. So they quick run in as the wave goes out, and grab as much as they can, and then when the next wave comes in, they run, run, run, run...it's so funny!

You know, it's true...gulls do sound like they are crying "mine, mine, mine"!!

Brilliant write!

I was wondering, now I know you are at the shore. I hope you are having a great time my friend. Send some salt water taffy down to Texas, will ya? I loved your poem once again, your smile always shows in your work.
