A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

A senryu series

"

Palpable tension
somber faces mask each hand
for the stakes are high

The artist paints Life
vibrant, divine, decaying
such a sweet apple

"Still life" contradicts
fruit, flowers, vessels converse
Life, anything but still

Author's Note

Rita L. Sev
Spent the last two days at a Teachers' workshop at the Barnes Museum here in Philadelphia. While other (normal) people take notes on the paintings, I count syllables...

Haha - the captcha is "uplooker" :)

Exquisite blending of art and words - even though you counted syllables while viewing it! You have created a masterpiece of your own!! I like them all, but the third is my favorite as I can still visualize that still life I just could not seem to paint when I had to do so.....LOL Perhaps I felt too much of the life as well!

Thanks, Sheila! These are all Cezanne; he had a gift for making the inanimate come alive! :)

He certainly did Rita............my still life was obviously only DEAD! LOL
First, how lucky are you to have seen all of the greatest private collection on the planet, although no longer private... and maybe the most grand robbery of all time.

The three pieces above are wonderfully direct, and what a challenge to sum up incredible works with limited syllables!

You summed it up perfectly with the last part...I love how you integrated words and visuals here and produced something truly unique that caters to all the senses and offers a bit of something for everyone...you captured the spirit of each painting wonderfully in each senryu...a beautiful work on many levels my friend :)

Such an exquisite array , I love that last one, indeed when art and poetry speak to us though the artist's creation, it's divine...charmed by your poetry, and laughed at your author's note..ha ha 'normal' people gave me good chuckle, you're a poet silly woman! :)
