FOOTPRINTS

FOOTPRINTS

A Poem by Shabeeh Haider

Their fragrance always lingers,

Their footprints do not fade.

They left us and had gone but,

Their memory always stayed.

The waves of time keep striking,

And drowning the sweet past,

But memories and some faces,

Are always meant to last.

Their smiles can still bring laughter,

Their tears can still cause pain.

Just shut your eyes and relive

Those moments once again.

They left us for a new world,

New skies and a new land.

But still we see their presence

And footprints on the sand.

Sounds like a unique take on when you go down memory lane. Looking at something can easily trigger that as well. It's a very touching poem to me, because memories are something I look at a lot. Pen on.

Jacob, thank you for your review
some of those who left us will live on in our minds and hearts. you know how to convey the idea so elegantly and sweetly. your rhyming is impeccable, too.
another gem, Haider.

Thank you Woody, for your kind words
This is a beautiful poem, and one that I can relate to. I lost my grandfather when I was around eleven years old, and I experienced a lot of emotions that were very confusing, especially for a child. But one of the feelings I found comfort in was the hope of Heaven and the joy of memories, which you have aptly portrayed here. I love the final two stanzas of this poem most of all. The repetition of the idea of "footprints" at the beginning and the end of the poem is effective in bringing it all together and is a beautiful image. Overall, this is well-written and touching. Very nicely done!
