Chapter 6

A Chapter by Kiara

The elevator dinged and the doors opened.  Being early, Lucas and I took the silence as a normal occurrence.  We were still holding hands as we moved down the hall towards the lobby.  We stopped and he gazed into my eyes.  “I love you, Kairi.”  Then we were kissing.  I had no idea how it happened or why I kissed him back, but I almost enjoyed it….

“Come on,” He urged as he began to move forward again.  I followed him, my mood somehow better than it had been.  How could I have been so selfish, kissing this guy I met last night?  How could I kiss him when I knew Sophie was dead?

As we stepped around the corner, a gun fired.  It was too late to turn around, and we had gotten there too early to hear it and escape.  I knew I would soon breathe my last breath.

The gun made another bang and I watched as Lucas fell to the ground in slow motion.  Tears burned my eyes again.  I had lost everything.  At least everything would be brought to an end in just a few short seconds.  The gunman turned to me, pulled the mask away, and my mother stood pointing the gun at me.  A loud bang pierced the air.  Everything went black.
