SCHRODINGER'S LUNCH

SCHRODINGER'S LUNCH

A Poem by Vol

At these coordinates,

it is precisely twelve o’clock and

everything East if me has already happened.

Everything west of me may, or may not happen.

But if time is non-linear, all hell is breaking loose and

there is a cat whose fate will never be sealed until men in white jackets finish their sandwiches and lift the lid

to peek from behind their thick glasses.

If I were there, I think I might join in the happy

slapping of backs when we find our side won the bet.

Meanwhile, from what I know of cats, Schrodinger’s

losing blood from putting it in that box in he first place.

Leave cats alone. Schrodinger was just having a good time with reality.

It's strange how we have to use thought experiments to discuss certain things... like, the absolute and complete breakdown of everything real when gravity overtakes the other forces. Quantum mechanics is a strange field of inquiry... time interchanges with space on a regular basis, it doesn't really make sense after a certain point (i'm not a big fan). It's probably not mystical but, we are definitely missing something still. These thought experiments though, are the key to theoretical physics ... Einstein came across the seeds of relativity from a relatively random thought experiment during a pretty depressing time in his life.... "what would happen to earth's orbit if the sun instantly disappeared... would it take 8 minutes (the time it takes light to travel to earth) for earth's orbit to feel the affect or would the earth shoot off into space immediately from it's orbit? Turns out it would take 8 minutes.... even gravity has to obey the speed limit... (light speed) -- everything is relative to the speed of light it turns out... which isn't really a speed limit, it's just a feature of how matter and space interact. They are the same thing, if one exceeds the other, causality breaks down... existence no longer makes sense. Unless you are in a black hole, maybe.

When I was stationed at Ft Sill over 15 years ago I was on leave one time and found myself driving through a place called Alanreed on my way to the west coast. That's Gouge Eye right? Same place?

Quantum sandwiches. A picnic in the essence of in between. Now that would be something.Sandwiches with Heisenberg pickle. You've got my mind wondering. But that will change as I observe it.
Excellent whimsy.

Wit with brains and foresight, sir! Mixing thought with good old Schrodinger who sets the sky on fire at times

So like the look at the goings-on here, there and everywhere! Rather think you are the one who sat mooting this and that then.. decided that whatever ends up in a lidded box needs something said to it, pretty darned quickly.. or else!

'until men in white jackets finish their sandwiches and lift the lid
to peek from behind their thick glasses.'

Under the circumstancs we are either those in white jackets or those in the box?!

Haha, how amusing. One of the great scientific theories that I have never bothered to fully understand but understand just enough to talk about in a very generic sense. At least in my defense, it’s incredibly complex.
Besides the cat, all I remember of Schrödinger is the infuriating “particle in a one dimensional box” problems that they tried to teach me how to solve. Hopefully, the two of you have a better relationship.
It is a good question though. Why on earth did they pick a cat to go in the box? Probably because people would feel too guilty about potentially killing a dog but the cat certainly would have given as good as it got to be there in the first place.
