Coffee

Coffee

A Story by Lyn Anderson
"

Satire? Humour? I don't know. I hate putting my writing in a box.

"
Something  I said to an online friend lately got me thinking.  There are two kinds of people in this world.  Those who like coffee, and those who don’t.  Coffee is really not a take it or leave it kind of thing like softdrinks or lemonade.  I like my coffee.  All kinds of it.  My favourite is strong and dark, and just hot enough not to burn my tongue, with just enough cream to take the bite out of it.  I can drink any and all sorts of coffee, but I do have my preferred brands.  Sometimes I just like to change it up a bit and have a cappuccino or a Turkish coffee.  When it’s a change it up kind of thing, it’s not that I like one over the other, but that sometimes different is just good.

But the thing is about coffee, without it, I am a b***h.  I am moody, have headaches, am out of sorts, and not at all myself.  At those times, just about any coffee  will do, weak, bitter, two day old, or the dreaded instant coffee.

There is such a thing as bad coffee, but the only thing worse than bad coffee is none at all.

Whether we call it coffee, chicory, or java, it is part of our lives. It is what we wake up to and what we want to hold tightly in a mug on a cold winter’s night. The infusion that wakes us up and smells like home. The aroma that brings us to a better place. Yes, that is coffee....and it deserves the tribute you give it here. Well written. Lydi**

Mine's Irish too. :)
I don’t need coffee or tea, but I drink them in moderation anyway because they both contain a cornucopia of beneficial antioxidants that can’t be found anywhere else in Nature. Ancient man as well as animals have always instinctively chewed and brewed plants for medicinal reasons. It’s tissue oxidation that causes premature aging as well as immune deficiency diseases.

I use the antioxidants as an excuse, I am hopelessly addicted.:)

Yes, it's so true.
Boy, isn't this the truth? We had a coffee machine at my old work (instant; you know, the kind with the poker hand cups you bought for a quarter?); tasted like something growing under a log, but I STILL bought it, as, like you say, the only thing worse than bad coffee is none at all!

Yes I run my mornings on it and do rely on it, but the free cup I had in the tyre depot was particularly bad yesterday.

You really are a coffee lover aren't you? And I am just the opposite. I have a bad reaction to coffee, getting moody, and having headaches if I drink it. However, I do need the caffeine...and I can take it in an asprin form evry morning.

This spoke right to me. I'm hardly a living person if I don't have my black coffee in the morning.
