A matter of perspective

A matter of perspective

A Poem by Aradhana

A cold breeze passes through my face

Playing with my hair

Cooling me down

And along with it

A stream of thoughts

Rush into my mind

A war begins

Between devil and angel

Both of them equally powerful

Why is wrong “wrong”

Why is right “right”

Another flock of wind strikes me

Leaves me in a dilemma

My brain and mind busy debating

What is actually “wrong” and “right”

With that in my mind

I leave to search for an answer

In a far off valley

Sat a saint under a banyan tree

I asked him

The wise man replied,

“ Just a matter of perspective

As to what is right for one

Mat not be for other

Depending on their situations and desires

What one must ask to themselves

Is not whether my act is right or wrong

But if it is needed and

Whether my lord is pleased with it or not”

2nd line, second stanza...did you mean "angel"?
yes, the battle between right and wrong, the line between right and wrong, the definition of each.
There is a lot of grey area, and those who judge others seem to forget that.
They just don't understand how difficult it is to know and see that exact line.

very well put. it is always a matter of perspectives, right or wrong per say, is a decision we have to make. What is evil, what is good ? - the last line of the write is very pertinent here to answer it,
"But if it is needed and
Whether my lord is pleased with it or not"
Also, to add - it is the path of Dharma we need to follow, which will guides us on Right or Wrong.
Thanks for writing and sharing, these was very deep and profound thoughts.

Fine wisdom here, Aradhana. The line between right and wrong is blurring these days (except when it comes to writing...wrong is always wrong!) and we may find ourselves wondering if the choices we make are the right or wrong ones. It's a perspective that has been clouded since the rise of social media; there are more shades of grey around than blacks and whites. It makes us careful with what we say and do and I find that quite sad. That is one wise man under the Banyan tree and he knows what he is talking about. I enjoyed your poem and the thoughts contained within.

When perspectives are "absolutes" our world is a harsher and more fear-full place.

Very true words!! Thank you for your kind words! :)
Yes, as Jacob says there is a fine line between right and wrong, so we shouldn't be so quick to take the moral high ground There are many grey areas. A nice little piece of wisdom here, conveyed with confidence and style.

You are welcome.
If you can walk in an others shoes, be my guest. Is that the words they always trot out.
The sad thing is, everybody wants to be right all the time, never ever looking at their own shortcomings.
President T comes to mind immediately. Maybe with lifestyles getting so busy now, we've all sort of lost the art of contrition.

A defensible point of view, beautifully expressed.

An interesting comment on the ancient question of morality. Whether there really can be a universal right or wrong is up for debate. Individuals and societies are both too varied and complex to reduce things down to a simple black and white.
