Muses

Muses

A Chapter by Bekah B

Of the poets, performers, scholars
From the ancient world
Not much is known
Except the inspiration they were graced with
Was the same as our own
Each scholar has his illumination
Each performer his own spark
Each poet his muse
And all are infused
From the dawn of time
With breath and life
Hope and form
By the Nine:
The poets have four sisters
Who grant them with their words-
Euterpe who sings to those
Who pen down lyric lines
Erato the lover
Friend to those whose heart is not their own
Polyhymnia in her high temple
Priestess of the poets
And enduring Calliope
Who can inspire endless lines
Of perfect epic poetry
The performers have three sisters
Who burden them with creativity-
Thalia who loves to laugh
Gives comedians their edge
Melpomene who has suffered much
With her tragedies moves men to tears
And graceful Terpsichore
Has followers that dance and sing
For crowds innumerable
The scholars have two sisters
Who teach them all they know-
Urania of the stars and sky
Loves those who seek to understand the universe
And proud, sorrowful Clio
Ensures all history is recorded
That mankind may never forget
So when you lack inspiration
Do not fret or despair
Look to the ancient army of illumination
Their collected knowledge and creativity
And if you are a scholar- learn
If you are a performer- dance and sing
If you are a poet- write

If I could give a higher rating than what I just did, by damn I would. That was awesome. I really loved the "story" of the sisters for each and I really could see, in my mind, each emotion flitting across each Muse's face. I really loved this! Thank you for requesting it to me.

Being a fan of all things Greek, I enjoyed this poem, for the most part. Muse-wise, Thalia is my favorite. :)

There are some lulls, but the final stanza really summed everything up.

Thank you for posting.

Love it, love it, love it!!! LOL, my 3 exclamation points are like the 5 stars in a 5 star rating.....means, guess what...it's going in my library to read again and again as inspiration. I will try to remember to call on the Priestess of the Poets.
Very much enjoyed!

Reads almost like a "how to" for the group of creative crew that wants to know where their inspiration comes from.
Like, an intresting, breathing infomercial for a creative kit sold by the Greek Cosmogeny.

I was there with ya.
Nice work

Goodness love, lol, this is incredibly rich in thought and well thought through!
The beautiful Caliope, I recall writing her in once too, adds a lushness to hear names such as the ones above in poetry lol
Stunning
