I know who she was...

I know who she was...

I know who she was…

With smoldering eyes burning with the flames of lost identity,

I saw a long lost friend tonight who once was the other name for dignity.

Her bruised skin and multicolored hair hallucinates her to be someone else,

It was the first time in my life when I saw her without that old masquerade.

Her own deeds left no place for her to hide and no place to cry,

So she started living near the main street under shelter as the blue sky.

Obsessed with shame and saturated with guilt and culpability,

She refused to return back to her home and to her own family.

She is still lost from this world but inside waiting for a metamorphose,

As I’m very certain that one day she will become what once she was…

Author's Note

Bhavya Kaushik
Yesterday, I was just going somewhere with a friend of mine and I saw one girl at the corner of the street and I felt as if like I know her and then when I went close to her, I found that she was actually my old school friend. The irony is that she recognized me very well and everything about mebut then I was totally shocked to see her in that situation, she then told me that she left her home last year and from then she was living on streets, so I insisted her to return to her home but then she refused to do soSo after a long conversation I took her back to her home and her mom was so happy to see her again, she was like constantly cryingthen later on her mom told me that she was addicted towards drugs and they admitted to a rehab but then after a month she escaped from the rehab and was lost, they tried their level best to find her again but then she wasnt found and..thats all

This entire incidence really changed my outlook towards this life a lot..I cant just explain it in words..
Often we write about ourselves, our friends or family but this poem of mine definitely goes to her..

This type of poem strikes close to our hearts, and there are those
with these types of problems I believe feel so worthless, and not good
enough that they leave their families, friends.

I feel meeting up with her was your fate. Things happen for a reason.
I found it very touching that you took the time to talk to her, and help
her. You took her home, but she left again, and I hope you understand
that that was probably all you could have done for her because she has
to see things for herself and wants to get out on her own.

Thank you so much for sharing this...AD

It is difficult to see people we were once familiar and even close to suffer. I commend your poem to reach out to her in a subtle way. I do hope she finds her way. On another note, your poem is so touching and shows your sweet, genuine character. I definitely like this poem. Awesome work.

This is so sad. Almost depressing.

Finding her in this state is something that perhaps you might have never imagined. meeting her was only a coincidence but that meeting could be the difference between a dark past and a better future. I hope she realizes that and helps herself.

She is one of those who has the support of others to see her through this, to help her to recover. She must not deny herself this chance.

And you are not just a good writer Bhavya but also such a fine human being.

These days its not often to read articles like this on newspapers and other magazines but this poem is totally different from all of them, it is so raw and personal. You have written it beautifully with your style and maintained it so deep like your other poem I could feel the pain and sorrow in this one too. Bravo Bhavya, one more masterpiece.

what a sad thing to see someone you had known become something that was totally different from the person you once knew...it is good that you did what you thought was right by her and for her mother. hopefully she realized this, not just for herself but for her family....i can just hope that she will become what she was meant to be instead of the addict that she was showing the world and you.

what a change of subject for you and you have done it in your usually deep and caring way. nicely done, my dear Bhavya.

This is a kind of poem which I'm going to remember for a very long time dear, its one of the first times when I'm reading any of your work based upon such a different subject and you have done a complete justice with it.
Keep up the good work.
