Winter Nights

Winter Nights

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(cold days just get you thinking of fire)

"

tongues of lambent flame
lick the imagination
before coals burn bright

Much like Coyote who lives a few miles from me on the American side, frosty nights are not far away. I do enjoy Indian Summer with the bright sunny days and cooler temps. Sweater weather.
Still, good to stoke the fires on cool evenings, pour a glass of wine and watch the flames.

Good one Chris.

When less is more .. this is more or less what the doctor ordered on a wet n windy December day .. Also reminding me of the need to bring some kindling in from outside before the visitors arrive this evening ..

Thank you Neville. Nothing like a real fire.

Hi, Chris,

Just dropped-in to enjoy a few of your always keen offerings.
Ya know? When it's done well -- like this piece of yours -- I enjoy a Haiku or Senryu as much as a ten verse Ballad; especially, when it inspires a plethora of open-ended visuals, imaginings, and interpretations; and, you've certainly done that. ; )
If I were to compose a poem of all the possibilities that crossed my creative mind while reading these well-struck lines, I'd be writing for a week.

Suffice it to say, "You never disappoint."
And, how happy that makes an olde bard! ⁓ Richard 🍃

Thank you Jimmy for your continued support of my scribbles. Much appreciated.

Winter nights are so beautiful and magical and you describe them so wonderfully here. I saw you started writing poetry later than you would've liked on your profile, but your words make it seem like you've been writing for a very long time.

As always, my pleasure! (:
great haiku here, Chris.
and i find it so interesting that the tips of flames are actually blue in color...and blue usually
signifies cold...there is a paradox in that, i think.

Almost a frost last night here in Michigan. Winter is coming. Very nice use of words dear Chris. We have the four seasons and some are blessings, some are not. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.
