In Best Belief

In Best Belief

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(written four months ago and far from being resolved)

"
hearts weep in silence
eyes mist with pain
over and over
a record plays
when will we see you again

when will we see you again
my love
when will we see you again
when the last of birch leaves
flutter down
in a flurry resembling rain

till then my love
on hopes we cling
we'll sing a song of best belief
we'll sing a song of memories
and beg it's not in vain

You portray the emotions with this above line in such a vivid way, that I got completely carried away..
What a powerful imagery, dear Chris..
Sometimes, life brings some painful turns but with "song of best belief", this too shall pass, probably.

This reminded me of James Taylor. I love the second stanza. I love the image of birch leaves falling like rain. In this I feel the pain of loss. Great poem!

Aye, grief is long in fading. And like tattoos on our soul, they never fully fade to nothing. Thus, as you say, it is till not resolved. Such sadness well expressed.

This was a nice ode using simple words and letting them do complex organizing on paper...separation is never easy but you write about it with such strength and character.

To think of the bittersweet desperation of love... and the insanity it brings. Such a fine muse it makes.

Such an intensely moving poem dear Chris - the loss speaks for itself within this but there is also the desperate need for those songs of memories to reach the desired goal and be heard - such heartache felt from this, much love and thoughts your way...

I really enjoyed ‘In Best Belief’ and it’s rhythm which seemed heightened by the use of ‘when will we see you again’ in succession.
