Brewing

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(creeping change)

"
be still the waters of my heart be still
for all the waves that frolicked in my youth
and danced upon the mighty open sea
for all the crested breakers that gave chase
the thunder of the endless ebb and flow
stay calm and set my restless spirit free
-
let not a ripple on the surface play
let not the night give way to dawn’s first light
the ivy strangles now the upright tree
the tides have turned the future far from bright
sweet freedom how I loved your fresh air
tune
now coffined on the dark side of the moon

Still attracted to the sea after all these years, tells us we change far slower than nature let's it's majesty much slower than ourselves. We may want calm, buy are you trying to tell me little kid Christine's don't light up during a real battle of the waves, as longvas she's not on top of them now.
I'm still like that during storms, battering the outside as long as I am inside. It's good to see that kid every now snd again. It keeps us on our toes. ☺

And to you Chris ☺
I liked the comparison of moods with the sea, but the sea never ages ... and responds endlessly to the moon .
Those waves still frolick if you let them, less quickly maybe but approaching the dark side of the moon as we all do eventually doesn't mean we can't have ripples on our quiet waters sometimes :)

Thank you. I agree Stella.
This is excellent, atmospheric and richly worded. It strikes at experience telling the reader he/she couldn't do it as well.

Excuse me .. we all need it .. after all, change is the only constant .. although I must confess, the more insidious, the better these days .. Now swiftly changing tack our Chris ..

I found this post to be refreshingly deep and otherwise literarily rewarding & lots of other things besides being relatable .. Neville

I think it is good at a later age to still have that restless spirit.
once that is gone...the thrill of the chase in life subsides.

what are we left with then?
a conffined spirit that longs to rise from the dead.
Someone please move that stone.

Sometimes we long for our souls to be settled; to find a place of stillness and comfort. Where we feel like we belong.

I love how you used water and the stillness of the surface to covey the idea and it makes for a calm image in the mind.

Happy Sunday to you too
The air of this is pensive, reflective and troubled. The only thing that stays the same is that everything changes. For good or ill we wait while the pendulum swings first one direction then another. We only hope it doesn't swing too far in either direction. I like the style you have chosen to relay the imminent change. Maybe it will turn out better than our fears and anticipations. I enjoyed the read. F.
