When You Make a Poet Fall in Love

When You Make a Poet Fall in Love

A Chapter by Constance
"

Just a light little verse with rhyme. Not intended to be scholarly or deep. It was shorter when I first posted it, and I've made it a little longer.

"

When you make a poet fall in love

You'd best be ready and prepared

For each and every tender thought,

Unabashedly and eloquently shared

When you make a poet fall in love

They're going to waste a lot of time

Etching out their feelings' proof

Perhaps in meter and in rhyme

When you make a poet fall in love

They'll  tell you what you long to hear

Even when they're too afraid

To whisper it into your ear

When you make a poet fall in love

It will be shown in more than verse

A poet's soul is full of passion:

Kisses or lines- a poet won't rehearse

When you make a poet fall in love

They'll savor every memory

And try to give it back to you

With more than soft, sweet poetry

When you make a poet fall in love

You've captured something rare

Brimming with wonderment and light

Heart, like mind, so driven to share

When you make a poet fall in love

Falling out is hard to make them do

For with each line they form resolve

That keeps their fair heart true

My friend, when a poet falls in love...

Make sure they fall in love with you

Author's Note

Constance
It was shorter when I first posted, though originally I'd thought to make it longer. I was afraid of dragging it out too far and grinding the idea into the dirt. Thank Frances for the addition of more verses. :)

God ... ... ... DAMN this is good! You are impressing me more and more with every new poem. I would like to make one small suggestion, however (because I'm like that, you know, I can't help it). Instead of the last line:
When you make a poet fall in love with you.
Try this on for size:
When you make a poet fall in love,
They fall in love with you.

I whole heartedly agree, a poet is always full of passion and I am in love with one myself so I understand waht you mean... beautifully expressed.

This is outstanding! So, so very true. We are a rare breed and to make us fall in love is not easy to do, but once done . . . well . . . the depth of our emotions blaze like a wild fire.

Brilliantly written. A favorite of mine.

Most definitely.

Thanks for sharing your talent with us all.

I've read this many times and with each new look I've liked it more. You are one of two poets I've discovered here at the Cafe whose work I re-read simply for the pleasure of it. Ahhh, but now I can listen to you read it... that adds a completely new dimension. This is an absolute favorite!

This is really well done, and I enjoyed reading it. The flow of the sixth stanza seems to be a little off, as I faltered a bit while reading it, and had to start over, but overall this is a great piece of writing.

This is so cute and so true! A poet falling in love is unlike anything else. I like our lifestyle, don't you? Even though we magnify emotion, such as pain maybe, but we also magnify things such as love and pleasure. Which makes it all the more beautiful, though bittersweet.
Love it

O
