Chapter 6.

"
Wes woke up with a bitter taste in her mouth.
"Well, that was fun.” she said sarcastically.
Wes realized she was in her bedroom.
"Robert,” she said, “I gotta thank him sometime."
Weslie sat up and looked at the time.
"Oh, crap! I have to get to the courthouse!"
She got dressed and raced to her car. She speeded to the courthouse and went through the judge's entrance.
The bailiff called the court to order.
"Judge Chevelle presiding over the matter of The People vs.Victoria Rene Dickenson. Judge?"
"OK, Miss Dickenson, state your case."Weslie said.
"Well, I want to buy a house in this curious little town and the city council won't let me! I have the funds and
everything, but they say it's a 'historical monument'!"she whined.
       "That's it? That's your testimony?"Weslie asked.
"Uh, yeah."Miss Dickenson stated. She then began to manicure her already perfect nails.
Wes held in her short temper and directed her attention to small, quivering man acting as defendant.
"I am Antoine-"
Victoria stood up and shouted, “I object!"
Wes bit her lip and said "Sit down, ma’m.He was just saying his name."
"Oh.I, um, must be watching too much Law and Order." Miss Dickenson smiled nervously and shrunk into her seat.
Antoine muttered,"Thank you. As I was saying,I am Antoine Parfolazzi, the representative for the Wharez city council. The
city wouldn't let Miss Dickenson buy the property because it's the former home of our founder! The house was a headquarters
for the building of this town and he had a happy life there until his death! Although the property is vacant,it belongs
to the great-great grandchild of Herbert Farrel. Might I add,if we had any other historical monuments,we would have a
Wharez Historic Society.I rest my case."said the heated little man.He sat down with a loud humph.
Miss Victoria stood up slowly."May I say something, your honor?"
Wes considered saying no, but went against it."Yes,you may."
"I talked to Herbert Farrel's great-great granddaughter,Jasmine, and she said herself that she did not want the property.
And,since it is not a historic monument,it is vacant and open to the city's wish.To make more money,I suggest you sell it."
She smiled sweetly.
"She does have a point,Mr.Parfolazzi."
"I see that now."he replied reluctantly.
"Well,in that case,"Weslie chuckled softly,"I order the sale of the Farrel property and Miss Dickenson to win her claim."
Wes banged her gavel. "The people are dismissed."Everyone left the room.Wes went back home to Aspen in the living room with
Daisy by her side.
"Why are you here?"Wes said.
"I wanted to know what happened after you ran out the back door last night." Aspen tapped her foot impatiently on the
hardwood floor.
"Really? You didn't want to see me because you missed your best friend?"
"I'm worried.What did Derek do?"
"It's not what he did.And besides,I already vented."Wes replied.
"To a bottle of Jack?"
"No.Well,yes,but also to a person.I'm good."
"The hell you are.I know you.Cal's apt to be dead an hour after he's back."Aspen said.
"I know better than anyone what would happen to me after that. And trust me,shankin's not my style."
"Can you just give me the gist?"Aspen asked.
"Consider my heart shattered."
