a moment's notice

a moment's notice

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a moment's notice

tranquil interruptions

in a still life quarantine

moving so fast we are inert

the mind matters most

and restricts the inhibitions of the heart

when love is secluded within

we are kept from what could have been inevitable

touching a hand,

sensing a smile

consuming the face of acceptance

but when the chaotic steady flow

of mistrust interrogates the suspect

in our mind

we end up in a solitary state

wishing we could just have

one more intrusion

and a still photo of how we felt.

Perfectly capturing the acceptance of being an onlooker when used to being a participant. This speaks to me, as over the last few years have been finding myself so reclusive, I no longer crave participation and do my best to be in the background of life, rather than the forefront. Not everyone is the same, but privacy is what I now strive for.
