the purge

the purge

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the purge

i'm a bulimic heart

when i dine on love,

part of me heaves it right out of my system

don't want the weight of a relationship

feel safer with thinner inner feelings

goodbye is my favorite meal

easier to digest

and less embarrassing

when i can hide in my own commode

of fear.

Yeah- the love you're talking about is like the high a bulimic gets when throwing up- a fake euphoria that feels empty, and therefore safe, afterward. An apt description of addictive love and the aftermath. This poem feels angry. Another level of the parallel- bulimics probably feel intense rage - stuffing and purging what they turn to in expressing it. I like it, the phrasing haunts me like it wants to be memorized, but I don!t really want to remember it's rawness and honesty.

"commode of fear"...Some people are scared of the relationship...is it fear of failure, or fear of being tied to one person? I wonder which? This is interesting, i know a lot of people like this, never able to stay with the same person very long, even if they really like them.

A sad disorder indeed - fear of being hurt, just like fear of gaining weight makes one purge as a false sense of protection I suppose. Where you come up with all your ideas I will never understand but I must say it's always enjoyable to read them :)

thank you for your kind review and understanding of the "meat" of this...

When a relationship leaves a bad taste in your mouth it is better to purge yourself off it. Easier said than done.
I like your use of phrases here. You have said so much in such a light tone.
Not at all easy when you are saying good bye
