the importance of what's not said

the importance of what's not said

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the importance of what's not said

silence,

comfortable between two old friends,
old lovers,
old understandings

awkward between couples on first dates
when each is hiding a thought
a truth
or a falsity meant to instigate
unease

silence,

warranted at times,
wishful thinking at times
that blessing at times
prayed for in the end

to be comfortable
nothing more needing to be said
life expressed in a poem

all of it,
in fewest words
then silence

blessed silence,
understanding understood.

I like this stuff... Truly even in silence a lot have been said... It's the action that speak... "nothing more needing to be said" ...

So simple, yet so rare to be found. Wistful and lovely. There is so much to be said and listen in silence...

Yes, silence can be excruciating in some circumstances.
Yet, just a nod to say, fancy a coffee.

"Blessed silence. Understanding understood"-so Yes! -stellar line that describes a 'magical' state between two people who recognize and accept and enjoy each other on a non-verbal level. R-A-R-E! "Old lovers, old understandings...Life expressed in a poem...in fewest words...then silence"...Beautiful.

I like the way you explore different concepts of silence in this one Jacob. The final silence is one I can relate to when I finish a good, thought provoking poem or book, movie or TV programme. It is a silence that reverberates.

There is always something beautiful in silence, the words not spoken, yet felt in that moment.
