Invitations Sent Backwards

i'm monotony's bridegroom

constant surge of emotions

the pen walking down the aisle

of the mind,

waiting for the words

to proclaim the marriage of poet and pain

pews filled with bystanders, family

strangers

all filled with wonder at this union

and why the laughter

stayed in the sanctuary

avoiding the ceremony

but unceremoniously divorced from love

the reception comes later

years later

and the toast is to the attempts

to the writes

to what was destined to fail from the onset

two lovers who later became attendees

to the next wedding,

sitting on opposite sides

as strangers in pews

filled with strangeness

yet the monotony is still

the ring bearer

waiting for its cue.

you're most welcome'd, jacob, it was my pleasure :)
The marriage of poet and pain.....what a brilliant line this is! I am not sure anyone can write really good poetry unless they have felt deep emotional pain at some point. To truly understand life and love, one must feel pain. Great metaphor. Lydi**

A marriage of pen and thought, writer and reader. This was good for my soul, this sad Sunday morning for me. Thank you.

The marriage of writer and reader makes the complete union. Sometimes dissonance may cause a rift, but with understanding, the link is forged.
"Words do not a prison make, nor irony a cage."

Your writing always tests my deductive powers Jacob. Thank you.

On this invitation I shall save the ring for last because the poet here finds ink that makes any marriage last.

"The pen walking down the aisle of the mind"-absolutely superb. No adequate words to describe the brilliance of metaphor and poem....so I'll just reiterate- You Rock Jacob!!

Profound disappointment clothed in eloquent, metaphorical poetry.
An elegant portrayal of that powerful motivating emotion.
Impressive work!

A lonely poet who hurts and pens his words hoping it will be the panacea shared with others only to find nothingness. Bleak, sad and a warning to live life for today and not dwell in the past. This one is definitely food for thought Jacob.

thank you, John...
This had me laughing. The way you wrote it and the play on words is genius. I felt it was light hearted but that could just be me. The reception was later years later had me laughing out loud.

i almost always intend and rely on humor, even if it is dark...yes.
well that's a sad tale of love no more ... indeed it's all amiss ...perhaps at the last minute someone shall speak up and say 'no Pain, you cannot marry the poet, for I am the light and my purpose is to warm the poets side, day by day by day' there is still hope X :D
