A Dream

A Dream

A Chapter by Erica Ross

I don't know what it is that you do to me
I don't know what it is that you did
But you got me down on my knees
Begging like a kid
That night, you left me speechless
That night, we did it big
Neither one of us were selfish
We gave it all that we could
But you blew my mind like nothing I've ever seen
And even though I've experienced you before
It's like you're something out of a dream
..a dream

What I find pleasing in this piece is your use of repetition. It can either make or break a poem. You used it very well here. The overall theme of this, the dream, should have a hazy air to it; however, your words are realistic and powerful. That creates a dualistic nature to this poem. I think the protagonist longs for the dream but is caught up in reality. Isn't a dream always so much better? These are by far my two favorite lines:

And even though I've experienced you before
It's like you're something out of a dream

This is very well done, Erica. I have no suggestions for you, only praise. You are honing your skill as a poet and creating some remarkable poems.
