Culling the Heavens

Culling the Heavens

A Poem by icelandicblue

Oh how I would cull the stars
and the moon from the sky
should I be able to whitewash
the darkened path you travel.

I would bejewel the sinister forests
of your thoughts with the sparkle
of hope and the glow of love
despite your resistance-

gladly burning my fingers
to their very marrow if
the hell fires that cast
long shadows could be thrown asunder.

You must look toward the light
my sweet until it quickens your
heart and fills you with the
peace allowing the inviting

warmth of a future waiting to be
plucked from the very bosom
of salvation, for it awaits you
by the warmth of a hearth
kindled by choices well made.

For those we love, we cannot do enough... and the hardest thing to do is nothing, letting Life teach her lessons... The last stanza is a hope-filled embrace - wonderful piece, Blue!

Thank you so much Rita. You always say the kindest things.
Your words are those of one who would walk to the ends of the earth if that would heal the pain of another but knowing the other must also make wise choices and take the first step and be responsible by coming to the hearth kindled by wise choices!!
'Tis so very heartwarming and shows a great love, concern and continued devotion for another!!

You are so very kind and I am humbled by your words!!
this is warm and wonderful and everything a poem about altruistic love should be. So many moments in this - bejewel the sinister forests of your thoughts with the sparkle of hope, gladly burning my fingers to the marrow....look toward the light until it quickens your heart, a future waiting to be plucked from the very bosom of salvation - warm hearth, choices well made.

The last stanza was perfect!
Love the thought of this gift waiting to be enjoyed if we will come in out of the cold and just be still by the fire for a spell.
Wonderful poetry Blue.

Thank you David...there is warmth when one seeks it.
This poem is really beautiful. I actually had to read it twice before the words really struck me. This, to me, is representative of how one's love for another should make them feel, whether it be a parent, friend, spouse, etc. One should always ache with the desire to brighten another's path. Your word choice is perfect. The poem has a lovely cadence, like a whisper in the wind or a gentle nudge from a friend saying, "I'll catch you if you fall."

My pleasure.
this reflects much of my own faith... our Creator loving, kind and self sacrificial; just to pluck every one of us from the depths... what an uplifting and "keeping it real poem"... thanks for this!

This is at once, both breathtaking and heartbreaking. The supplication is written exquisitely and oozes the love that spills forth from a heart split wide open. But oh how the reasons for that supplication gnaw at our hearts and souls. Too many times we are forced to stand back and watch a loved one punch the gas pedal and aim their lives at the edge of the abyss.
