The Road To Nowhere

The Road To Nowhere

A Poem by Marshall Hanson

numbness to life
days are a haze
my mind a impossible maze
as i lay in bed
trying to find the cheese
i'm well
but i have a disease
they say it's only in my head
nothing is wrong
but nothing feels right
I can see
But have no sight
It all looks the same
dark or light
the compass is broken
no direction in sight
just a endless sea
of muddled thoughts
and broken dreams

"I can see
But have no sight
It all looks the same
dark or light"

{Nice...there is a sort of 'tired of everything' mood here--i love it}

just a random question but, "trying to find the cheese"? lol! i actually liked that! it made me laugh a little bit. it brought me away from the overall mood of the poem, but i kind of liked it. it kept me on my toes; i wasn't expecting that. good job!

the last part of the poem really attracts me tho. i really liked:
"But have no sight
It all looks the same
dark or light
the compass is broken
no direction in sight
just a endless sea
of muddled thoughts
and broken dreams"

-the imagery was great in this. i also liked the mood it evoked. it made me feel hopeless, in a sense, and like giving up was inevitable. i really enjoyed this poem. very, very moving.

"as I lay in bed
trying to find the cheese"

... this is kind-of a strange line when taken apart.. it could be something about "visions of cheese", or something in that sentiment. Making it like a concrete action goes against the act of lying motionless.
Excellent overall!

I enjoyed this poem. I feel the same way when I have writers block or just don't wanna get out of bed. I can relate to this poem very well. You're wonderful!!!

Well done. I read this as if I was in a extreme case of writers block. It works. I can also feel myself in the poem in a state of depression, completely focused on not being focused, knowing what I want to do but not knowing what it is, etc. Nice job.
