Carefree & Happy

Carefree & Happy

A Poem by Onlyme

His face was weathered
with time
and of course
the maturity of age.

His eyesight was fading
his hearing was not as good
as it used
to be in his younger
years.

His hair was white and
fewer.

Many a wrinkle appears
upon his weather-beaten
face.
And his lack of teeth due
to loving
too many sugary delights
over the decades
and he hated  to wearing his
fake teeth.

So his gums on a show he did
with such pride and style.

But his toothless smile
said it all.
He was happy and carefree
as he was alive and enjoying
his ripe years.

The title of your poem beckons to me becuz this is the kind of person that beckons to me. I love the way you created this vivid profile that feels animated becuz you describe the ole guy's looks & mannerisms. This poem is the antidote to one I read recently saying old age is a bummer (written by a young person). I love seeing every stage of life as simply a different kind of celebration. You convey that kind of joy here (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
