Give Me A Reason To Stay

Give Me A Reason To Stay

A Poem by Nicole Schuster
"

for anyone questioning.

"
I don't understand
This is what I wanted
I wanted this
So badly

We both wanted this
And we finally gave in
To what felt right for us

And for a while
It was great
I had everything I wanted
I saw a future
I was happy

But now I'm miserable

Please
Give me a reason to stay
Make me stop feeling empty around you

Promise me that we can have a happy future
Tell me
That things will get better
Back to the way they were

Make me believe
That I'll feel what I used to
Again for you

I don't see any of that ahead
All I have is doubt
I'm empty with you

Give me a reason to stay

I can't find one

Author's Note

Nicole Schuster
I thought I knew what I wanted. But then when I got it, it wasn't everything I had hoped for. It's true what they say - be careful what you wish for. They just forgot part of it - be wary when you finally get it. Hopefully some people can relate.

Thank you!!
You have painted one of the most common scenarios of life. This happens to all of us. You've expressed the situation in simple terms, with no embellishments, just a plaintive crying out about the way things are often not like the fantasy we've created in our imaginations. The only thing I don't like so much is that this poem suggests that another person can make us feel this or that. I don't agree. But it's also the way many people believe & act. We are responsible for our own feelings & choices. So I'm glad to see the final answer in your poem is something a person must face, becuz another person can't give us reasons to do anything.

A beautiful love poem from a beautiful friend. If anyone ever can't see how wonderful you are then they aren't worth it.

It is that void you felt though that made you realize what you were missing. For that alone you came out a better person. Before you find what you want you must find yourself. Well done, your poem speaks.

Now I understand the "I'm searching" even better...

A heartfelt and relatable poem. I bet everyone has been through those feelings a time or two. The hardest part is when someone keeps staying and staying until they only see the reasons why they need to go themselves... and that the reason they had thought about while continuing to undertake a broken connection, have become nothing more than cold breezes.

A great poem. Well laid out and smooth to read. Good job!

No problem
Being with someone that isnt full themselves
means you are dating doubt
a person who can never take someone for who they are
someone who looks for things that are not there
its sad
but once you meet someone so empty
you are better off letting him be

I love how you placed your emotions so delicately here
