My Name is Shay

i am not just one thing or the other. like all people, i am multifaceted. don't expect anything less.

 

My name is Shay

and I am the runaway

you are trying to catch

but can never find.

 

My name is Shay

and I am the queer

who squirms out of reach

each time you try to box me in.

 

My name is Shay

and I am the shadow

stuck on the fringe of reality

hiding behind every solid thing.

 

My name is Shay

and I am the outlaw

defying all of your laws

speaking openly of your taboos.

 

My name is Shay

and I am the light

poking into each corner of your mind

forcing you to be brutally honest.

 

My name is Shay

and I am one of “them”

lurking in the bushes

waiting to take your children away.

 

My name is Shay

and I am the friend

offering a helping hand

when the world turns its back.

any opinions, good or bad, especially constructive, are appreciated. specifically, did i use too much repetition and what do you think of the title??

I love the ending to this. This is the type of writing that people should be reading in English classes. I love how deep you get, but yet you don't hide much in the words. Like, you don't use metaphors that can be interpreted in more than one way. You say it indirectly, but not too indirectly. I don't know if that makes sense, but great write!

Again you use repetition with balance. You are growing as a writer. Are you really in the eighth grade? I say that because your writing has real depth and maturity.
