A poem for Venus, Star and Squeak, my feline companions.

Oh
My little ones
Your presence is
A ray of sunshine
On the darkest day.

Brightening
My life
With your love
And companionship.

Just
Hearing your purring
As you rest
Peacefully
Near me
Is healing.

Especially
During the times
I am gripped
By a severe bout
Of anxiety.

As
You anchor me
In the here
And now.

As
My hands stroke
Your soft fur.

Please
Will you accept
This small token
Of my thanks?

When
I place
A gentle kiss
Upon you.
