Fare Thee Well, Wee One

Fare Thee Well, Wee One

A Chapter by therisa
"

saying good-bye.

"
Oh Lady
Hard to believe
I have known you
For four months
Only.

And yet
From the first day
We met
You claimed me
As yours.

Despite
Your emaciated
And sick body
You fought for life
Like a lioness born.

Your purrs
Filled my heart
With the spirit of life
And hope.

Brightening my day
As you rest
Upon my shoulders
Your face
Against mine.

I know
The right decision was made
To give you
Up for adoption
But it still hurts.

For I shall miss you
Something fierce
Lady.

Author's Note

therisa
Lady was, a 2 month kitten, when I saw her, for the first time. Her body was wracked by malnutrition‎ and several infections, it was feared, at the time, she wouldn't survived the week out, but she proved everyone wrong. Last Thursday, it was decided, for the best, Lady should be given up for adoption, as Rose, Lady's human, could look after her, properly. This is, my goodbye to Lady.

This is fittingly dignified Therisa - its love leaps off the screen and this stanza
"For I shall miss you
Something fierce
Lady." is so simple yet encapsulates all that love of another being is.

This melted my heart. Know how hard it is to give away an animal. Such a heartfelt piece of writing.
