Sleeping Beauties

Sleeping Beauties

A Chapter by therisa

I walk past
Their prone bodies
Resting on
My dirty clothes hamper
So peaceful and totally relaxed
With the world around them.

Am attempted
To run my hands
Across Squeak’s
And Venus’ soft fur
Knowing this
Will wake them up.

Should I give in
To my temptation
And brush my fingers
Waking up
My two furry companions?

Hmmm
An evil glint
Comes to my eyes
Thinking revenge
Is fair play.

Having been woke up
By them
Numerous times
Because they were bored
Wanting to be cuddled
Or played with.

Venus’ sleepy head
Pokes up
As my fingers
Slide through her fur.

Bringing a sense of grounding
And comfort
Into my chaotic life
Better than
Any medication can.

It was light and playful right up until the last verse, when you add the twist in and provoke a sad/serious thought from the reader.
Good poem :)

Thank you, everyone. Am sorry for the long time, in my response to your very kind words. Have been dealing with some very personal issues.

ah, this one was light and airy - even though it carries a serious message, I found the "playful" aspect refreshing.
